The Opportunity - 2017 Competition Round 1

I recently had the great pleasure of visiting Mix Master Studios in Burke, VA for the first round of the Opportunity's 2017 competition. Many young local artists from the DMV got the chance to record a song, interview with DJ Flexx, and be mentored by very talented musicians in the area. I personally got the chance to document these mini sessions occurring throughout the day. 

It's amazing to see musicians chase their dream and differentiate themselves from one another at such a young age. It reminds me of myself when I was their age. Also, it makes me proud to know that even in such a hard competitive working place where the landscape of the industry is always changing, they're willing to jump and go after what makes them happy and unique. 

MTS Music Showcase at Jammin' Java

It's been a couple months since I've been to a live show. Last weekend I made it out to the MTS Music Showcase hosted by DJ Flexx at Jammin' Java in Virginia. I was amazed by the young talents Gabby Nguyen and Vicu Schek! Both are very talented for their age. 

In between acts, Matthew Shell provided performances from his catalogue accompanied by many local musicians including Substantial. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon and can say I'm excited to see more performances from these artists in the near future.
