An Evening Conversation with Makoto Fujimura

Makoto Fujimura is a famous visual artist whose work is exhibited in museums worldwide. He's also the founder and director of the International Arts Movement (IAM) and served as a presidential appointee to the National Council on the Arts in 2014 where he was given the "Religion and the Arts" award by the American Academy of Religion.

In this event's conversation, Fujimura speaks the importance of creating and conserving beauty as an antidote in our broken culture and the importance for cultural generativity in our public life. He also believes that beauty is essential to the "soul care" of each individual, and offers a new vision to inspire artists.

Nick Ryan - Location Portraits

In his third session with me, we decided to hit up Lake Needwood in Rockville, MD. I chose this location because it seemed like a wooded area would perfectly suit his album title name called "The Lone Wolf". It's a great area to change things up because of the crowded trees, open land, and big lake. Greatest part about the day other than capturing great shots was that the weather started heating up and began showing signs of spring. It definitely gave us something to be cheerful about. His album is almost done so I can't wait to hear the final results!
