Dominican Republic - Lake Enriquillo & the Haitian Border

I have taken many trips to the island of the Dominican Republic, traveled all over the country, but never made it over to Lake Enriquillo. Last December I finally made that drive. Interesting fact about this place is that the water level is rising in the lake, which would be the reason for so many trees being under water now. When I was traveling around the lake we got lost because the main highway was underwater and made it hard for us to navigate around to the other side. We ended up seeing the Haitian border because of new road construction and being lost, but it wasn't as nerve wrecking as one would imagine.

Even though this lake had an eerie feeling as you got closer to it on the side south, you got distracted by the beautiful surrounding mountains. Transportation is getting better in the DR but it was still a long 16 hour day. We drove from La Romana to Jimani and back. Next time I'll have to get a hotel.
